France got a hard win over Paraguay today with a single goal from a penalty kick at the Philadelphia stadium in the USA, in the Round of 16 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The match was very tense. The Paraguay players used strong physical contact and hard tackles to provoke the French players and distract them from reaching the goal.
Match Highlights and Goals
The first half ended in a 0-0 draw with strong defense from Paraguay. They closed all the spaces against the French attack.
Things stayed the same until the 68th minute when substitute Desire Doue dribbled past several Paraguay players and went down after being fouled inside the penalty box.
Kylian Mbappe stepped up to take the penalty kick. Without paying attention to any distractions from the Paraguay players or their goalkeeper Orlando Gill, he scored it successfully to give France the lead and the winning goal in the 70th minute.
With this result, France goes through to the quarter-finals to face Morocco next Thursday at the Gillette stadium in the USA.
