US Vice-President Dick Cheney left Amman Wednesday for the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to meet with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for talks, amongst other issues, on the tense situation in the Middle East.

On Tuesday, Cheney held talks with Jordan’s King Abdullah II regarding Iraq and the deteriorating situation in the Palestinian territories as well as bilateral relations, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

For his part, King Abdullah cautioned against the grave consequences of a potential US military attack on Iraq, expressing hope that all pending problems with Baghdad would be resolved peacefully through dialogue.

Cheney's visit to Jordan came at the onset of a tour the Vice President started of Arab countries to muster support for Washington's global campaign against terrorism.

Prior to heading the region, Cheney stopped for a two-day visit in London, where he secured the support of British Prime Minister Tony Blair, QNA said. (Albawaba.com)
