ALBAWABA - The U.S. military carried out strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas, Fox News said, citing a senior American official.
Sound of explosion was also reported in the city of Minab, southern Iran.
Iranian state TV reported that Tehran fired missiles at U.S. forces on Thursday after what it described as an attack on an Iranian tanker.
"Following the attack by the US military on an Iranian tanker, the enemy units in the Strait of Hormuz came under Iranian missile fire and were forced to flee after suffering damage," IRIB said, citing a military officer.
Additionally, three U.S. destroyers were subjected to an attack with missiles and drones by the Iranian Navy near the Strait of Hormuz, Tasnim news agency said Thursday, citing sources.
Tasnim further said the U.S. destroyers that were attacked are heading towards the Sea of Oman and that tonight's escalation began with a U.S. attack on an Iranian oil tanker, followed by targeting of U.S. military ships near the strait.
Explosions were heard on an island in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.
"The explosions at the Bahman pier on Qeshm Island occurred during an exchange of fire between Iranian armed forces and the enemy," Iran state TV added.
However, the American official told Fox News that the military strike on Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas in Iran doesn't mean a resumption of war or an end to the ceasefire.
