ALBAWABA- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune co-chaired the inaugural Turkey-Algeria High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara on Thursday, underscoring efforts to deepen political, economic, and strategic ties between the two countries.

The meeting took place during President Tebboune’s three-day official visit to Turkey, which began on Wednesday. The two leaders oversaw the signing of several bilateral agreements aimed at expanding cooperation across key sectors, including energy, mining, transportation, agriculture, trade, and investment.

President Erdoğan welcomed Tebboune at Esenboğa Airport on Wednesday before hosting an official reception and guard of honour ceremony at the Presidential Complex in Ankara.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Erdoğan described Algeria as a strategic partner and stressed Ankara’s commitment to strengthening long-term cooperation, particularly in energy security and natural gas supplies.

“We are determined to develop our cooperation with Algeria in many strategic fields, especially energy, mining, transportation, and agriculture,” Erdoğan said.
The Turkish president also highlighted the two countries’ shared positions on regional developments, particularly the conflict in the Middle East. He said Turkey and Algeria support efforts to end regional violence and restore stability, while criticizing Israeli policies amid ongoing tensions.

The inaugural Strategic Cooperation Council brought together senior ministers and officials from both countries to review bilateral relations and outline future areas of collaboration. Additional economic agreements were also signed during a parallel Algerian-Turkish Business Forum.

Both governments reiterated their goal of increasing bilateral trade volume to $10 billion, with discussions focusing on boosting investment flows and expanding preferential trade arrangements.

Relations between Turkey and Algeria have expanded significantly in recent years through growing economic partnerships, political coordination, and cooperation in sectors such as infrastructure, renewable energy, and defence. Officials from both sides said the new Strategic Cooperation Council would serve as a permanent platform to strengthen coordination and advance the countries’ multifaceted partnership amid evolving regional challenges.
