The crime rate in the UAE increased by 23 per cent in three years, jumping from 34,216 in 1997 to 63,729 in 2000.
According to a Security Affairs report submitted to the Federal National Council, the most common crimes in the UAE were money-related. Together with crimes involving immigration, alcohol and drugs, they formed 94 per cent of the total registered in the country.
The report said money-related crimes topped in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah, followed by crimes related to immigration. (Albawaba.com)
