Intense shelling by Syrian government forces killed at least 11 civilians in a southern Syrian city, including women and children, an activist group reported.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that at least three children and four women were among those killed when troops loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad shelled the southern city of Daraa, according to the Associated Press.
According to the Observatory's chief, Rami Abdul-Rahman, the attack happened late on Saturday. According to an AP report, one of the shells hit a building in central Daraa, which lies close to the Syrian border with Jordan.
Daraa has been plagued by fierce clashes in the city and province of Daraa between the regime and the opposition, according to AP.
