A military spokesman for the Iraqi Air Defense command told the official Iraq News Agency that US and British “hostile warplanes committed a crime” on Monday by attacking “our civil and service installations at our provinces in Wasset and Dhi Qar”.
The spokesman said that the “enemies penetrated our airspace yesterday (Monday) coming from Kuwait and backed by AWACS aircraft inside Saudi Arabia and E2C aircraft from inside the Kuwaiti skies, carrying out 34 armed sorties”, INA reported Tuesday.
The jets flew over the areas of Artawi, Al-Basya, Al-Ghleeba, Nasirya, Safwan, Al-Raf’ai, Qalat-Sukr, A’faq, Al-najaf, Al-emera, Al-Diwaniya, Al-Hashimiya, Al-Qaidher and As-Samawa.
The spokesman added that the “brave (Iraqi) missile units and anti-aircraft defenses confronted the enemies... forcing them to retreat”. (Albawaba.com)
