ALBAWABA - The European Union will likely agree on new sanctions on Israeli settlers over violence against Palestinians on Monday, according to the EU's top diplomat.
"I expect political agreement on the sanctions on violent settlers, hopefully we will get there," EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said before a scheduled meeting.
"I am hopeful we'll get there," she noted, adding it was still not entirely clear the required majority would be found for the proposals.
This comes following a change of government in Hungary, which ends months of blockage. The proposed sanctions had reportedly been delayed for months due to the objection of opposition from Hungary under former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.
However, many say the recent political change in the country may have removed that obstacle, and paved the way in the EU to agree on imposing sanctions on Israeli settlers more likely.
