Israeli troops killed two Palestinians during a manhunt that began late Tuesday night for infiltrators who entered Israel near Kibbutz Kissufim, east of the Gaza Strip. One of the Palestinians was killed late Tuesday night and the second was killed Wednesday morning.
Two Israeli soldiers were shot during the manhunt in an exchange of fire with the Palestinians, according to Haaretz. One of them, the deputy commander of an armored unit suffered light to moderate wounds. The second soldier sustained light injuries.
In another incident, Israeli troops arrested a Hamas activist in the West Bank city of Hebron late Tuesday night. An Israeli soldier from a commando unit was injured in this operation. Israel also arrested late Tuesday night an FPLF activist in the Azzariyeh village near Jerusalem.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Israel’s security forces have been put on maximum alert for the Jewish Pessah holiday in light of warnings of pending Palestinian attacks.
Some 8,000 police, border police, and volunteers will be on duty over the holiday, and armed guards will be posted outside synagogues.
