GULF AIR MULTINATIONAL SOCCER TOURNAMENT BEGINS TOMORROW

The second multinational soccer tournament sponsored by Gulf Air begins tomorrow evening (7 April) at Gulf Air Club grounds in Isa Town.

A total of 10 teams, representing seven countries, one university and two individual teams from Gulf Air, will take part in the tournament, which is being held under the theme 'The world is one country.

"We were encouraged by the success of the last soccer tournament in which several expatriate teams took part," says Head of Sports Committee and Gulf Air Manager HR Management System Ahmed Al Banna.

"The tournament brings together all expatriates promoting harmony, friendship and brotherhood among the multi-cultural and multi-ethnic communities in Bahrain."

Seven teams, representing Jordan, Oman, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey and Iran, a team each from Delmon University, Gulf Air Club and Gulf Air, will be vying for the winner's Cup sponsored by Gulf Air.

The inaugural day will see two matches – Syria Vs Gulf Air and Delmon University Vs Jordan. The final match will be held on 21 April to decide the winner and the runner up.

"Gulf Air, as a leading pan-Arab airline connecting the Middle East and the rest of the world is proud to host this event," says Gulf Air Club Manager Yousif Alatif.

"Teams from more than eight countries took part in the last tournament and the Saudi Arabia team was the winner while the Moroccan team was the runner up."

A grand celebration has been planned to mark the finale in which all expatriate families, representatives from embassies and several VIPs will participate.
