ALBAWABA - NASA recently took the internet by storm after taking to social media to announce that it is building a new base on the moon that will serve as a habitat for long-term "science missions."

The space agency took to X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, "We're building a Moon Base! @NASAMoonBase will serve as a habitat where astronauts live and work during long-term science missions."

NASA added that it will share updates on its lunar exploration plans via a live stream on Tuesday, May 26, on NASA+ and YouTube. It further outlined that "Robotic missions will work alongside astronauts to study the Moon and help prepare us for future Mars missions."

According to NASA's official website, the live stream will take place at the agency’s Headquarters in Washington and will feature participants including NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman, acting associate administrator and Exploration Systems Development Mission Directorate Lori Glaze, and program executive Carlos García-Galán.

The historical mission will aim to "sustain human presence and expanded scientific and commercial activity at the lunar South Pole" by sending astronauts on difficult missions to explore more of the moon and build the foundation for the first missions to Mars.
