U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney arrived in Jordan Tuesday evening on the first stop of his 11-nation visit to the Middle East.
He met with Jordan's King Abdullah II. Following their meeting the Jordanian News Agency Petra said they discussed the developmetns of situations in the Palestinian territories and the Iraqi issue.
During a closed meeting followed by an expanded one, King
Abdullah II and Cheney reviewed the critical situation due to consistent Istraeli aggressions against the Palestinian people and incursion into Palestinain territories, Petra reported.
The monarch expressed hope that General Anthony Zinni's mission would be a success to save the situation and lead to a ceasefire.
The talks focussed also on the Iraqi issue where the Jordanian leader expressed hope of achieving a solution for all pending issues with Iraq through dialogue and peaceful means. He shared Jordan's concern from the consequences of a potential strike against Iraq and the danger it would impose on the region's stability and security.
Upon his arrival, Cheney told reporters that his tour in the region would focuss on the joint efforts to comabat international terror and determination to promote the Arab Israeli peace march.
He said that his talks will focuss also on the challenegs facing the region's security and mass destruction weapons threat. (Albawaba.com)
