Six people were killed on Thursday and eight wounded when a roadside bomb exploded in western Baghdad. Some reports claimed that one of the dead was an Iraqi child.
The attack, which occurred in the Amriya district of the capital, according to Reuters, was apparently targeting an Iraqi military patrol. Only civilians, however, were among the dead. Another bomb was aimed at a police patrol in Jihad, a mostly Sunni western neighborhood, injuring three civilians bystanders, said police Lt. Mohammed Kheyoun.
US military authorities revealed that two American soldiers had also been killed; one died on Wednesday during a battle, while another had been killed on the previous day in the Al Anbar region of Iraq, according to Bloomberg News.
Also on Wednesday, the bodies of some 20 men who had been bound and hung were found in Baghdad, while some 50 men were abducted in the late hours of the evening by men disguised as security personnel.
The US military reported that since the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq, more than 30,000 attacks by Iraqi fighters have been recorded, according to USA Today.
More than 2,000 American soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the campaign, while some 30,000 Iraqis have lost their lives.
