ALBAWABA - Massive wildfires killed at least six people in Algeria as emergency workers continued efforts to control the blaze, which drew near a hospital.
Algerian authorities said on Wednesday that rescue teams evacuated more than 100 injured people from the Seraidi Hospital in Annaba province, east of Algiers, after forest fires reached the hospital's perimeter.
According to the Algerian Press Agency, Interior Minister Saïd Sayoud, during a visit to the fire-affected areas, explained that the patients were transferred to El Bouni Hospital in coordination with local authorities, medical teams, security forces, and civil protection.
He indicated that their health was stable and that the evacuation was completed without any casualties.
The Algerian Interior Ministry had announced on Tuesday that six deaths had been recorded since the start of the wave of fires sweeping across several regions of Algeria, and ordered an assessment of the damage in preparation for compensating those affected.
