A young Saudi Arabian man hunting in the desert wilderness accidentally killed an elderly Saudi female shepherdess after mistaking her for a monkey, a newspaper reported Wednesday.
The 19-year-old man was on a hunting trip in a small village near the Kingdom's western town of Taif when he saw what he thought was a monkey breaking tree branches, Emirates247 reported.
“He aimed his gun and shot. The bullet hit the woman in the chest. When the man came near her, he was shocked to find she is a woman,” Sabq daily said, the website added.
“He rushed her to hospital but she died later. Police arrested the man, who told them he killed her by mistake, thinking she was a monkey damaging the tree,” the newspaper's report said.
Although Saudi Arabia does have a diverse population of monkeys and it is often said that these furry friends share remarkable similarities with humankind, this young hot-shot hunter should really stick to indoor pursuits from now on.
