Palestinians commemorate Land Day and "The Great Return March" by holding demonstrations and protests along the Gaza strip
The exceptional protest is dubbed "The Great March of Return" and has the backing of the Gaza Strip's Islamist rulers Hamas. Gazans converged on the strip border for the Return Marches with Israel.
The rallies in the Gaza Strip also coincide with Land Day, which marks the killing of six Arab Israelis on 30 March, 1976 demonstrations against Israeli confiscations of Arab land. Clashes with the Israeli police took place in the 1948 Palestinian towns and cities of Galilee and the so-called Triangle including Sakhneen, Araabe, Dier Hannah, Nazerath, Tamra, Taybeh, Tiera Nahaf. The Israeli authorities arrested more than 250 people and 49 were injured on that day.
