Estimated Two Million Take to Streets in Hong Kong

Tens of thousands of people again rallied in central Hong Kong as public anger seethed following unprecedented clashes between protesters and police over an extradition law, despite a climbdown by the city's embattled leader.

Hong Kong protesters have piled the pressure on pro-Beijing leader Carrie Lam with a series of huge demonstrations against a divisive bill to allow extraditions to mainland China.

Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam on Saturday indefinitely delayed the extradition bill that could send people to mainland China to face trial. The central government in Beijing has expressed its support, respect and understanding for Hong Kong’s decision, but condemned violent acts by protesters.

Chinese state media remained largely silent as an estimated two million Hong Kong people took to the streets to protest an extradition bill, with social platforms scrubbed clean of any pictures or mentions of the rally.
