ALBAWABA - The Russian Defense Ministry announced destroying 75 Ukrainian-launched drones, several of which targeted the Tuapse oil refinery causing noticeable damage to the facility.
In all, 74 drones were shot down over the southwest Russian area of Rostov, 17 over the Black and Azov seas, 8 over the Krasnodar region, where Tuapse is located, and single drones over the regions of Belgorod, Voronezh, and Smolensk, the ministry added in a post over Telegram.
Sergei Boiko, head of the Tuapse district in the Krasnodar region, stated on Telegram that infrastructure and residential structures had not been destroyed.
However, The Tuapse oil refinery, controlled by oil company Rosneft (ROSN.MM), recorded some damage by a Ukrainian drone strike overnight, Krasnodar area officials reported on Monday.
Debris from a drone shot down by Russia started a fire at the refinery, which has now been extinguished, according to the regional government via the Telegram messaging app. There were no casualties, it said.
Since the beginning of the Russian war on Ukraine in 2022, the Tuapse refinery has been the target of many Ukrainian air raids. A series of explosions were reportedly heard near the refinery earlier on Monday, Russsian Telegram channels SHOT and Mash reported.
