President Mubarak Starts U.S. Visit

Egypt’s President Husni Mubarak is due in Washington Saturday on his expected five-day visit to the United States, where he will hold tant talks with US President George W. Bush on bringing an end to the violence in the Palestinian territories and reviving the Mideast peace process. 

 

Mubarak will have a series of meetings with top US officials including Vice-President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Colin Powell, Secretary of Defence Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of Commerce Donald Evans and National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice, as well as Congressmen. 

 

The Egyptian President starts the itinerary of his official visit Monday with a meeting with several members of Jewish American associations and unions in his residence at Blair House. 

 

On Tuesday - the second day of the visit - Mubarak will meet with Powell, Rumsfeld and Rice and will also attend a lunch banquet with a number of American analysts, strategists and intellectuals including Zbigniew Brzezinski, adviser for former US President Jimmy Carter. 

 

According to the Egyptian News Agency MENA, Mubarak-Bush talks will focus on the necessity not [to] expand military operations to include more countries like Iraq or Iran, exerting efforts to stop violence in Palestine and reviewing the international situation and North-South relations to narrow the gap between advanced and developing countries.
