Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak visited the United Arab Emirates on Saturday on the first leg of a Gulf tour to discuss a looming U.S.-led war on Iraq and both sides said efforts for a peaceful solution should continue.

"The two sides agreed it was necessary to continue pursing a peaceful solution in the framework of international legitimacy and Iraq's abiding by (U.N.) Security Council resolutions," the official United Arab Emirates news agency (WAM) said.

An official at the Egyptian embassy in the UAE said Mubarak's Gulf tour would take him to Kuwait on Sunday and possibly Qatar.

Earlier on Saturday, Mubarak met German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, who told reporters Iraq must cooperate fully with the inspectors if it wanted to avert war.

Mubarak also attacked the American policy towatrds the Middle East region. According to the Egyptian leader, the U.S. concentrates much of its efforts to the Iraqi issue instead of the Palestinian -Israeli conflict. (Albawaba.com)
