Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has voiced confidence that media accounts were mistaken in reporting that Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon sought to fight US aid to Egypt during Sharon's recent talks in Washington, reported Haaretz newspaper, quoting Israel Radio on Monday.
Israeli reports said last week that during a closed-door meeting with Congressional leaders, Sharon termed as "negative" Egypt's role in Israeli-Palestinian peacemaking and hinted Egypt was using US military aid to back an arms buildup for a non-existent threat, said Haaretz.
The radio, citing Mubarak as telling an Egyptian daily that such talks have "not taken place."
He was quoted as describing US-Egyptian ties as "courageous," and warned against any attempt to interfere with them – Albawaba.com
