ALBAWABA — A nationwide power outage has been reported across Ukraine following what the Ukrainian energy minister called a "massive enemy attack" that damaged critical energy infrastructure facilities.
Ukrainian Energy Minister, Herman Halushchenko, said that "the energy sector is under massive enemy attack. Attacks on energy facilities are taking place across Ukraine,".
He said that Ukrenergo, the national power grid operator, had "urgently implemented emergency power cuts" when temperatures across the country plunged to freezing.
DTEK, an energy provider, stated that Ukrenergo was initiating emergency power cuts in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, and Donetsk.
In a Telegram message, Ukraine's military announced early Thursday that an air raid warning had been implemented across the country "due to a missile threat". Other Air Force reports suggest that missiles were discovered en route to Kharkiv, Odesa, and eight other regions.
Oleg Synegubov, head of the Kharkiv area military administration, announced on Telegram that three attacks had targeted Kharkiv's Kyivskyi district, with no deaths recorded.
This month, Rosemary DiCarlo, a top UN official, condemned the increase in civilian deaths in the ongoing Russian war on Ukraine, which has lasted for almost three years. She pointed out that Moscow's targeting of Ukraine's energy infrastructure could make this winter the "harshest since the start of the war".
