ALBAWABA - Citing a senior Israeli official, Axios reported that Israel is moving towards striking a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah, following weeks of talks between the two warring parties.

On the contrary, Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation, KAN, reported that there was no green light given to move forward with a ceasefire deal with Hezbollah, citing another Israeli official.

According to Axios, the suggested draft for the ceasefire deal calls for a 60-day transition phase during which Hezbollah would relocate its heavy weaponry north of the Litani River, the Lebanese army would station itself along the border, and the Israeli forces would leave southern Lebanon.

The proposed agreement includes a U.S.-led oversight body to monitor implementation and address infractions.

According to Israeli and U.S. officials, the U.S. has agreed to provide Israel with a letter of assurances that includes backing for Israeli military action against immediate threats from Lebanon.

The report added that the US will be reassuring Israel to thwart activities such as the smuggling of heavy weapons or the re-establishment of a Hezbollah military presence close to the border.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese Health Ministry reported on Sunday that at least 84 additional people had been killed in Israeli attacks around Lebanon on Saturday, raising the total number of fatalities since October of last year to 3,754.

The government said in a statement that 213 more people had been hurt, bringing the total since October 2023 to 15,626.

Since late September, Israel has escalated its year-long cross-border battle with Hezbollah since the beginning of its brutal aggression on the Gaza Strip by launching a large air campaign in Lebanon against sites it says are Hezbollah. On October 1, it began a ground invasion of southern Lebanon.
