Minister of Health, Dr. Sa'ad Jaber, announced 889 new Covid-19 local cases, in addition to 2 imported infections, were recorded in the Kingdom.
Speaking during a press briefing on at the Prime Ministry, Jaber said among the domestic cases, 606 were registered in the capital Amman, 19 in Karak, 46 in Balqa, 130 in Zarqa, 5 in Ma'an, 4 in Ajloun, 18 in Madaba, 4 in Mafraq, 13 in Jerash, 24 in Irbid, 1 in Aqaba, and 19 in Tafila.
Meanwhile, 13 virus-related deaths, involving elderly people and patients suffering chronic diseases, were recorded, he said, adding 1 fatality was recorded to a twenty-year-old man battling meningitis and another involves a man in his forties fighting a bowel tumor.
To date, the death toll has risen since the start of the pandemic to 101, while 193 patients have recovered in Prince Hamzah Hospital, Royal Medical Services, isolation areas and Al-Istiqlal Hospital, according to the minister.
Since Friday, August 7th, 14,038 local Covid-19 cases were recorded, he noted.
Jaber said the epidemiological investigation teams have administered 20381 tests today, bringing the cumulative count since the start of the pandemic to about 1, 3 mln, according to Jaber.
During the past six months, Jaber noted the Ministry of Health has improved the health system to receive cases and provide close treatment, adding the Kingdom produces 10 mln face masks, 20 thousand anti-virus protective shields and 10 thousand medical garments daily.
The Kingdom also produces 200 thousand protective googles, and administers about 20 thousand PCR tests daily, he noted.
There are about 33 laboratories capable of conducting Covid-19 tests, and soon similar healthcare facilities will be opened in Irbid, Zarqa, Aqaba governorates and Ghor Al Safi, Jaber pointed out.
The number of epidemiological investigation teams rose to 400, he said, adding the tests in the private sector have been re-priced to become JD35 and ceilings have been set for private hospitals for Covid-19 patients wishing to receive treatment.
In this regard, the maximum tag reaches JD250 for the first class category, and JD150 for the second class services, and the ministry will follow up on the hospitals' procedures, he noted.
Jaber also called on citizens to stay away from gatherings, wear face masks, and use sterilizers.
