ALBAWABA - Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot by ICE agents during a traffic stop in Houston, Texas.
The agents stopped Lorenzo at 6:50am and attempted to arrest him, according to ICE which described Lorenzo as a Mexican National and an “illegal alien” who was being targeted by the immigration agents as a part of an “enforcement operation”.
Lorenzo’s son, Ronaldo, said that his father was trying to hire workers when the agents confronted him, while ICE said that Lorenzo “weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer,” resulting in “our officer firing his weapon in self-defense”.
According to the immigration agency, the FBI is taking over the investigation as similar incidents have happened in the past; Renee Good comes to mind - who was shot by ICE agents who reported that Renee also “weaponized her vehicle” while footage showed that no agent was in danger.
Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital where he died, according to local law enforcement.
The Texas Civil Rights Project made a statement regarding the shooting, saying: “We demand full transparency, an independent investigation into the shooting and any use of racial profiling that led to it, and accountability for the use of deadly force. Our neighborhoods are not battlegrounds,” said Rochelle Garza, president of the civil rights group.
