An Israeli settler was killed in a shooting attack near the West Bank settlement of Ofra early Sunday morning.

The gunfire apparently caused the vehicle in which the Israeli was traveling to flip over, killing the occupant, Israel Radio reported.

Eyewitnesses said that shots were fired on the vehicle from both sides of the road.

Israeli troops were operating in the West Bank village of Silwan, where the attackers were believed to have fled.

Overnight Sunday, Israeli soldiers killed a Palestinian man in the Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, Israel lifted the closure on the West Bank and Gaza Strip Saturday night, in the midst of talks with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell on the "road map" to Middle East peace.

Israel's Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz decided Saturday night to lift the full closure on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip as of 2 A.M. Sunday, allowing Palestinian workers to enter Israel Sunday morning. The closure has been in place intermittently since mid-March. (Albawaba.com)
