According to a report by the official Egyptian Middle East News Agency (MENA) on Tuesday, Iraq has agreed to a reconciliatory formula to end its dispute with Kuwait after all efforts to find a solution reached a dead end.
The agency said that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has personally interfered in the dispute and contributed to drafting the resolution.
The details of the document were not revealed but MENA said that it will be read at the summit meeting Wednesday in the form of a “declaration.”
The agency said that Mubarak responded to an appeal by Jordan to interfere, and met with head of Iraqi delegation, Izzat Ibrahim, and made a “certain suggestion,” to which Ibrahim agreed.
MENA said that the delay in the summit’s morning session was due to the time the secretariat took to prepare the draft, which was submitted to the conference as a document.
Sources told Albawaba.com later that King Abdullah and Mubarak met separately with Ibrahim, and Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sabah Al Sabah during the recess between the two sessions, and agreed to include in the declaration a call for lifting the embargo on Iraq, and on a certain formula regarding the Kuwaiti POWs claimed to be held by Iraq – Albawaba.com
