ALBAWABA — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) reported on Sunday that a controlled explosives disposal mission in northern Iraq resulted in the death of one American service member and the injuries of another.

According to the leadership, the second service member has minor injuries and is still receiving medical attention.
Since the war between Iran, the United States, and Israel escalated on February 28 to 17, more than 430 American troops have been injured during military operations. The most recent death increases the confirmed number of U.S. military personnel dead.
The declaration comes after a different CENTCOM statement that was released the day before, stating that an Iranian strike on a U.S. position in Jordan resulted in the deaths of two American service members and the disappearance of another.
Additionally, U.S. forces performing search operations at the Iraqi site found unidentified human remains earlier on Sunday, according to CENTCOM's most recent update. To ascertain their identification, the remains are being examined forensically.
The event occurs as ongoing hostilities and frequent attacks involving Iranian-backed troops and military equipment keep U.S. personnel in the region on high alert.
