ALBAWABA- Iranian state-affiliated media on Tuesday claimed that special operations forces assassinated a senior member of the country’s mini-security cabinet, in a report that has not been independently verified.
Fars News Agency, which is closely linked to the intelligence arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), said the operation was conducted “a few hours ago” by Iranian forces operating within Israeli territory.
The outlet described the strike as precise and successful but did not disclose the identity of the target, referring only to “one of the prominent members” of the cabinet. No details were provided regarding the method, exact location, or circumstances of the alleged attack.
The claim follows Israel’s recent announcement of two high-profile assassinations inside Iran, including the reported killing of Ali Larijani and a senior commander of the Basij paramilitary force.
Israeli officials framed those operations as part of a broader campaign, coordinated with the United States, aimed at weakening Iran’s leadership and military command structures amid the ongoing conflict.
The Iranian report also comes days after online rumours falsely claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had been killed in a missile strike on Tel Aviv. Netanyahu publicly dismissed the claims, appearing alongside the US ambassador to reaffirm his safety and authority.
The tit-for-tat killings mark a sharp escalation in the shadow war accompanying the US-Israeli aerial and naval campaign, which has already destroyed much of Iran’s conventional military capacity.
