Dubai eGovernment has announced that the Playstation Zone it has set up in various shopping malls in Dubai as part of Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) has generated huge response from hundreds of children each week. Over 500 children have been taking part in the Playstation games being organised in each of the five shopping centers.

As part of the playstation zone event, which is being sponsored by Jumbo Electronics and Sony Corporation, podiums were set up in Reef Mall, Burjuman Center, Modesh Fun City, Lamcy Plaza and the Dubai Airport food court, where children can enjoy games like Eye Toy, Brave, Singstar Pop and Gran Turismo 4. Two Playstation consoles and 10 Playstation games are being given away as prizes each week to winners of the raffle draw.

“The response to the Playstation zone has been overwhelming, with large number of children above 5 years of age, enjoying their time with their parents and friends,” said Abdul Nasser Ahli, eServices Provisioning Officer, Dubai eGovernment. “PlayStations have become a craze in Dubai today. Interestingly, there are several adults who are also getting hooked on to this, as was evident at the Playstation zones. These games are more than a mere entertainment device for the players as it fosters quicker decision making and sharpens the mind.”

“Our decision to include the playstation zone as part of DSS has been very rewarding, considering the huge participation from children who are making the most of their summer vacation,” he added.

Besides the ‘Playstation Zone’ Dubai eGovernment is involved in the organising of events such as, ‘Modhesh Friends Forum’, ‘Modhesh Website Creation Competition’, and Net Games Zone, throughout DSS, which concludes on September 2, 2005.

“All the activities that we are involved in during DSS aims to promote eServices and gives an opportunity to youngsters to demonstrate their IT skills and creativity,” concluded Ahli.
