A large explosion late Wednesday apparently targeting a military vehicle in central Ankara has left dozens injured in the Turkish capital, according to Turkish news agency Dogan and other reports.
Dogan news agency said the blast occurred near military lodgings. Residents reported hearing a loud explosion and television footage showed intense fire and billowing smoke surrounding a burned out bus.
A spokesman from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Omer Celik, denounced the attack as a "heinous act of terrorism."
The Prime Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, cancelled a planned trip to Brussels to attend a security meeting. He said that authorities were investigating information they had received about the explosion.
Turkish police set up a security cordon around the blast area, and the Turkish broadcasting agency RTUK has issued a ban on Turkish media showing graphic footage.
No suspects have yet been named, however Kurdish groups have recently carried out attacks in the country, and the October attack that left 103 people dead was blamed on Daesh.
