The strain of bird flu has been found in a Jewish settlement in the West Bank, not far from the Jordanian border, reports said Thursday.
The H5N1 strain was found in the Beqaot settlement in the Jordan Valley, the Israeli agriculture ministry confirmed Thursday, according to Reuters. A quarantine has been imposed on a farm in the settlement where about 20,000 chickens were being raised.
On its part, the Palestinian agriculture ministry announced it would begin culling chickens in a three-kilometre radius around the settlement to try to prevent the infection spreading across the West Bank.
