Bahrain: Ferry sinks, at least 34 die

A ferry carrying some 150 tourists, including Westerners, sank off the coast of Bahrain on Thursday and many were missing, a hospital source said. It was on an evening cruise that was to last several hours, news agencies reported.

 

According to the BNA, the incident, which was reported on 21:45 (local time), took place less than a mile away from Sheikh Khalifa Bin Salman Causeway bridge. Bahrain's coast guard boats arrived at the site and rescued at least 35 people, reports indicated. At least 34 bodies were recovered from sea, unofficial sources conveyed.
