Arab League Secretary General Amr Mussa on Monday held talks with Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz on his Middle East peace proposal.
Their talks focused on "Prince Abdullah's ideas on peace in the Middle East," the latest Arab and international developments, and the "atrocities committed by Israeli forces against the Palestinian people," the state SPA news agency said Monday.
The talks held at the Red Sea port city of Jeddah. They were also attended by the Saudi Foreign Minister Saud al-Faisal and Prince Nawaf bin Abdul Aziz, the head of Saudi intelligence.
Meanwhile, Palestinian Planning Minister Nabil Sha'ath said Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah would not present his proposal at the forthcoming Arab summit if Israel does not lift travel ban on Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat and allow him to attend.
"Prince Abdullah informed me that he would not present his ideas to the Arab summit if President Arafat didn't participate in it," Sha'ath said Monday a day after meeting the Saudi leader.
Sha'ath said Abdullah also raised Israel's travel ban on Arafat with senior U.S. officials and was optimistic he would win Washington's support for ending Arafat's confinement. Sha'ath added that the prince also pledged $50 million to help the Palestinian Authority out of its current financial crisis.
Abdullah had been expected to present his peace plan in detail to a March 27-28 Arab League summit in Beirut, Lebanon. (Albawaba.com)
