Amman will host on Sunday an international seminar on Arabizing the Internet, reported the Jordan Times newspaper.
The seminar, titled ‘Arabizing Domain Names on the Internet, seeks to facilitate Internet surfing and searches for non-English speakers, in addition to making Arabic one of five official languages using domain names on the web, Talal Abu Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu Ghazaleh International (TAGI), said.
“About 90 percent of Arab citizens do not speak English, therefore, they do not have access to the Internet,” said Abu Ghazaleh.
The participants, expected to number around 1,000, will include representatives from 18 Arab countries, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Multilingual Internet Names Consortium (MINC) and the vice president of Verisign GRS, said the paper.
“Participants will discuss different Internet matters with special focus on the establishment of an Arab Internet Names Consortium (AINC),” said Abu Ghazaleh.
“Arabizing the Internet would help boost inter-Arab trade and liberalize services, which will be the focus of attention in the next fifty years,” he said, adding this would help increase national incomes – Albawaba.com
