Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Saturday that his country does not trust the US administration, but it will hold talks with it following a request from Iraqi people to that effect.
In a meeting with Syrian First Vice-President Farouk al-Shara, Ahmadinejad said that in response to the US repeated calls for talks with Iran on Iraqi issue, the Islamic Republic will do so provided that the interests of Iraqis and the entire Muslim world to be guaranteed.
According to Irna, the president said that Iran's nuclear program aims at producing energy for civilian use and Iran has made considerable progress in various fields of industry and is ready to share experience with other Islamic states.
Ahmadinejad welcomed the idea of the Middle East to be free from nuclear weapons and said that Iran also calls for nuclear disarmament of all the world powers.
