The Lebanese Army’s Intelligence Branch Sunday raided the Ain al-Hilweh Palestinian refugee camp to arrest a suspect behind a video criticizing Sidon’s mufti that had circulated on social media.
In the video, Palestinian K.A.Gh. said that last week, he had called for a meeting with Sidon Mufti Sheikh Salim Sousan to ask for help in securing medicine for his mother from a charitable fund supervised by the mufti.
K.A.Gh. went on to say in the video that instead of registering his mother’s name in the fund and helping him secure the medicine, the mufti asked an employee to give K.A.Gh. LL10,000 (about $7), which K.A.Gh. considered an insult.

“He is not a mufti, he does not represent us, he doesn’t represent the Sunni religion,” K.A.Gh. said in the video.
In a meeting later in the day with the mufti at Sidon’s Dar al-Fatwa, Sidon MP Bahia Hariri said that she considered any insult to Sousan an insult to the whole city and that it was unacceptable to remain silent on the issue, the state-run National News Agency reported.
