A heartbroken teenager jumped to his death after his girlfriend told him she didn’t want to see him anymore, Sharjah police said.
A top police official told Gulf News that the 17-year-old Afghan, identified as Gh.A.A., jumped from the window of his family’s 62nd-floor apartment in Khalid Lagoon at 10pm on Friday.
The victim’s brother said Gh.A.A was in love with his 17-year-old Afghan girlfriend and that they always travelled together on the school bus.
He said after his girlfriend told Gh.A.A. that she wanted to end the relationship, he became depressed.
A passer-by saw the boy fall from the building and alerted police.
“No one identified the body but the victim had his BlackBerry phone with him and the police found his father’s mobile number in the phone,” police said.
The boy’s body was taken to Kuwaiti Hospital.
“The father and the brother came to the hospital to identify Gh.A.A.,” police said.
Police said the victim’s father and brother were devastated. The boy’s body has been transferred to the forensic department.
The case has been transferred to the public prosecution for further investigation.
