UAE has quite the record of divorces when compared to other countries in the Middle East, and though the verdict may not be in yet if it has the highest rate in the region, the Gulf country may sit well knowing that it perhaps tops charts for the most bizarre break-ups in Arabia.

According to Emirates 24/7, a newly-wed Emirati man divorced his wife after only a week when he received a call from an unknown female who claimed his new wife had an affair with another man. “He divorced her during the first week of their wedding while the decorations [for their wedding] were still up,” said Fouzieh Rabei, Head of Family Planning at the Social Affairs Ministry who was responsible for recording the case.

In another wedding turned divorce wonder, this Emirati man called an end to his relationship with his wife after learning that she spent nearly $41,000 (Dh150,000) on her wedding dress. The wife apparently revealed her big buck secret to her spouse after running out of funds to pay off the dress debt. Once again as they say...more money, more problems.

Numbers--whether on price tags or phones--seem to be creating quite the stir in UAE relationships. For one married couple, an "unknown" number was the breaker. A wife demanded a divorce from her husband after he refused to delete an unknown number in his call log, according to Rabei. In another similar case, an Emirati woman filed for divorce after finding texts in her husband's phone indicating he "had relationships before he married her." Guess the little things really do matter...and what happens in Dubai, stays in Dubai.
