According to AFP, locals in the Black Sea province of Ordu in northern Turkey alerted police to a suspicious figure on the phone at a bus stop on Saturday. Dressed in a burqa, yet wearing men's shoes, Turkish police suspected that the figure was a potential suicide bomber seeking to add to the recent bomb attacks that have been afflicting Turkey.
After arriving at the scene, Turkish police discovered that it was indeed a man and detained him for "infliciting fear and panic in the public." However, police soon discovered that the man was not a suicide bomber, but rather a married 33 year old disguised to meet his lover.
According to local news media, the father of two admitted to disguising himself in a burqa to meet one of the matches that he made through an online dating site. He resorted to dressing in a burqa for their first meeting in order to avoid being recognized.
Turkey has been vigilant after dealing with a series of bomb attacks recently. The high security situation has further been exacerbated by recent attacks such as the devastating October 10 bombing in the Turkish capital of Ankara.
