Lebanon’s capital ranked 20th in the world’s best cities according to Condé Nast Traveler’s 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards, CNN reported Thursday.

In the organization's 26th annual rankings announced Wednesday, Beirut came in above Paris, which ranked 22nd, as well as Venice and Barcelona which jointly took 24th place.

The readers’ votes named San Miguel de Allende in Mexico as the world's top city. San Miguel de Allende took the crown from last year's favorite of Charleston, South Carolina (which this year tied for fifth place with Spain's San Sebastian).

Budapest and Florence tied for second place.
