Friday brought a special treat for those attending their usual prayer time at the Al Ibrahimi Mosque in Amman. Hundreds were packed in tight to listen for the first time to a new preacher - a nine-year-old boy.
Islamic authorities in the Arab kingdom gave the ok for Anas Al Shatti to preach for the first time during Friday’s prayers after he claimed to have spent many years memorizing the whole Quran.
"God has given me the gift of memorizing the whole of the Quran and it's my duty to ask God to enable me to use it for a good cause."
Anas claims to have memorized the Quran on his own without attending any Islamic centers.
Local newspapers reported that Anas seemed confident and composed as he climbed the podium at Al Ibrahimi Mosque for the first time. His sermon, naturally, focused on the need for children to be good to their parents.
On the subject of school, Anas said: "I'm one of the top achievers in my school, thank God. I also play with my friends in the neighborhood, but I organize my time so that I can dedicate a part of my day for reciting the Quran."
