Sharjah Museums Department observes World Children’s Day

In celebration of the World Children’s Day, and as part of its social responsibility initiative ‘Because We Care’, the Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) has prepared a fun-filled entertainment programme, which held by the Sharjah Discovery Centre with the participation of children from the Social Care Centre and the Child Rights Department on October 6th, at the Elderly Centre in Sharjah.
Held from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM, the programme includes a package of diverse events, including entertaining competitions, face painting, as well as a chance to take souvenir pictures with their favourite cartoon character, and the participating children will receive gifts from the Centre to mark the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Manal Ataya, SMD’s Director General, said, “As part of SMD’s social responsibility initiative “Because We Care”, we are delighted to organise a day of learning and fun filled activities for the children’s. It is important to highlight the vital role played by the UAE in ensuring the Emirates’ children’s social, intellectual, and emotional welfare through child protection legislation and the establishment of care centres dedicated to providing specialised services to children throughout every stage of development.
Ataya said the UAE has been internationally recognized for the outstanding services it provides children.
The Discovery Centre is an interactive hands-on facility which has designed numerous successful programmes and activities aimed at honing children’s skills of and enhancing their potential, talent, and abilitiy to be creative and innovative
The Centre attracts families who bring their children to learn and explore the world around them through a wide range of exciting and entertaining activities provided at this interactive learning facility, which conveys a good image of the country’s great interest in child issues, and constantly updates its programmes to cope with the latest advances in child development.
Children's Day is celebrated annually across the world after the UN General Assembly recommended that all countries should establish a Universal Children's Day during its session No.512 held on 14 December 1954.
The UN Recommends that, with effect from 1956, a Universal Children's Day shall be instituted by all countries, to be observed as a day of world-wide fraternity and understanding between children and of activity devoted to the promotion of the ideals and objectives of the Charter and the welfare of the children of the world, and to the strengthening and broadening of the efforts made by the United Nations in favour and on behalf of all the children of the world.
