Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC), an independent forum aimed at conserving the environment by strengthening and promoting green building practices, will organise a Focus Day discussion on ‘Financing Energy Efficiency Projects’ on October 30, 2013, 8.30am to 1.30pm at the 13th Floor Auditorium of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry.

The second Focus Day of the year, a key initiative by EmiratesGBC to foster dialogue on various aspects relating to sustainable built environments, will discuss various available financial schemes and mechanisms for developing green buildings and retrofitting existing buildings to accepted green building standards.

Eminent speakers representing various UAE authorities and organisations including the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence, Etihad Energy Service Company, Regulatory & Supervisory Bureau, Trakhees, Energy Management Services and Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry will discuss the pros and cons involved in financing for green buildings. Several case studies will also be presented, which will provide insights on the practical course of action to be followed for undertaking energy efficient projects.

Adnan Sharafi, Chairman of EmiratesGBC and Board Member of the World Green Building Council, said: “With awareness about energy efficiency buildings gaining strong interest and more stakeholders coming forward to developing green projects and retrofit existing buildings, there is a strong emphasis now on the financing aspects of such undertakings. The Focus Day, organised by EmiratesGBC, will put the spotlight on the challenges as well as opportunities in financing energy-efficient projects. We are confident that the discussions will pave the way for more tangible initiatives that will further underline the UAE’s thought leadership in promoting sustainable growth.”

The Focus Day, sponsored by Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry, will be a valuable resource for representatives of government bodies, developers, planners, facility managers, consultants, contractors and suppliers in UAE and the region who need to understand the latest green building techniques and opportunities for energy efficiency in existing buildings.

The event is open for EmiratesGBC members and non-members. The fee per delegate is AED 100 for members and AED 200 for non-members. Those who are interested to participate in the Focus Day can register at: events@emiratesgbc.org before October 28.

EmiratesGBC regularly hosts and participates in multinational events, conferences and forums. The EmiratesGBC has also developed a suite of activities, inclusive of networking events, technical workshops, focus days and facilitated training based around specific issues related to the built-environment that meet the needs of its members, of the UAE community, and the wider Middle East.
