Container throughput in Dubai Ports Authority's three ports could post over 20% growth this year, according to a senior DPA official.
The organisation, which manages Jebel Ali, Port Rashid and Hamriyah, last year posted a 23 per cent growth in container throughput.
Anwar Wajdi, DPA's commercial director, said, "With the current flow of containerised cargo, I can easily say that this year also we will post more than 20% growth in throughput.
Cited by Gulf News, Wajdi said DPA was trying for the management of Umm Qasr port in Iraq. The contract for the management of Umm Qasr was recently extended to June 30. "Once the present contract of SSA Marine expires, we expect a fresh tender will be needed for the management of Umm Qasr port. We obviously have an interest in the port and our team has been trying to secure a contract for the management of Iraqi ports. However, nothing has materialised."
Wajdi said the Dh4.2 billion expansion of Jebel Ali port is going according to schedule. (menareport.com)
