A new report, “TV Advertising Rates in the Arab World” was released by the Arab Advisors Group on May 20, 2004. The report compares and analyzes TV Advertising rates in the Arab World. It covers five major Satellite Channels, MBC, MBC 2, LBC, Future, and Al Jazeera. Also included are two Pay TV providers, Showtime and Orbit. These channels are representative of the general channels, news channels and PAY TV channels operating in the region.
“Buying TV commercial spots in the Arab world has grown over the past years with the development of Arab Sat TV stations. With the huge success of Regional Arabic stations the TV advertising rates increased dramatically, especially with the adoption of hit TV programs that attracted a huge number of audience. Examples are LBC’s Star Academy and “Miss Lebanon” with a rate of 11,000 US$, MBC Fear Factor with a rate of 10,000 US$, and Future’s Superstar with a rate of 11,500 US$ for a 30-seconds commercial spot,” Mr. Judeh Siwady, Arab Advisors Media Analyst and author of the report commented.
TV Channels set the advertising rates depending on various factors that all determine the number of viewers watching at a certain time. The main factors that determine the audience are; time of the day, day of the week, special programs, special seasons and big events.
The report has eight main sections that analyze the market for TV ads in the region based on the covered stations. “The rates for regional (satellite) TV station are usually higher than the rates for local TV. For example the rates for Future satellite TV’s prime time reaches 5,500 US$ while the local channel has a rate of 3,000 US$ during the same time. As for the LBC satellite channel, the rate on a prime time reaches 7,000 US$ and on the local channel during the same time, reaches 5,000 UD$.” Siwady added. (menareport.com)
