The Qatari candidate to join the FIFA council has been banned from football for a year for failing to cooperate in an investigation, the governing body said Wednesday.

Saoud Al-Mohannadi, vice-president of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and a vice-president of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), has been banned by the ajudicatory chamber of the FIFA ethics committee because he "did not cooperate with the investigatory chamber in the proceedings against a third party," a statement said.

The AFC postponed its elections to the ruling FIFA council in September following Al-Mohannadi's provisional suspension and he will now be unable to stand in the rescheduled election.

FIFA did not specify on which case Al-Mohannadi, who was also fined 20,000 Swiss francs (19,900 dollars), refused cooperation. It is not connected to the 2022 World Cup which will be hosted by Qatar.
