Japan's Naomi Osaka suffered a disappointing defeat upon her highly-anticipated Grand Slam return on Monday.

The 26-year-old lost 6-4, 7-6 (7/2) to France's Caroline Garcia in the first round of the Australian Open.

The Japanese icon opted to spend some time away from action in September 2022 due to mental health concerns.

However, she decided to comeback for the 2024 season after giving birth to a baby girl last summer.

Osaka who has won four Grand Slams took part in the Brisbane International earlier this month, where she was knocked out in the second round by Karolina Pliskova.
