Manchester City had led the spending race among Premier League clubs by forking out 10,537,982 pounds last season, according to league sources.
According to The Sun, clubs had spent a whopping 77 million pounds on fees to players' agents last season, adding that the staggering total has gone up from the previous campaign and shows no sign of slowing as the agents' cut is tied in to transfer fees which have also spiraled.
Although City had topped the table, the club, then managed by Roberto Mancini still finished second to arch rivals Manchester United in the Premier League title race.
The report further said that Liverpool was the second biggest spenders on agents, racking up 8,600,444 pounds in two transfer windows that saw a total of 806 player transactions, with agents cashing in on every single Premier League club even though there was a drive to force down the money that many claim is flowing out of the game.
However, the report said that the table proves that spending money on fees cannot guarantee success or survival as Queens Park Rangers' bid to beat the drop ended in disaster despite their agent outlay of 6,818,688 pounds before Harry Redknapp took over as boss.
According to the report, although Tottenham Hotspur's push to break into the top four saw them fork out around one million pounds more than Arsenal with an outlay of 6,595,905 pounds, United, which paid a considerably lower amount of 3,681,580 pounds in fees, showed that it is not necessary to make agents win to win the title.
