FIFA president Gianni Infantino also confirmed talks are ongoing with the Kuwaiti FA regarding a lifting of the suspension that has been in place since 2015.

Kuwait was banned from international competition and barred from receiving development assistance from FIFA due to government interference.

“I would hope the suspension would be lifted today as far as I am concerned,” said Infantino.

“No president wants member associations suspended. Talks are ongoing and the parties know what the requirements are for the ban to be lifted. As soon as these conditions are fulfilled, it will take only a few minutes and the ban will be lifted.”

An overturning of the suspension would resolve the only issue the UAE FA cited last week when asked why it requested the Gulf Cup in Qatar be postponed.

“The Gulf Cup cannot be played without Kuwait,” said UAE FA president Marwan bin Ghalaita, adding that the request was “nothing political”.

Kuwaiti athletes are also banned by the International Olympic committee, again for undue political interference by the government in its Olympic teams.
